For me, a potential problem is that those type of people start to believe that because they "know so much more than anybody else", the become a bit blind to certain things, and do not want anybody around them except those who agree with them.

Yes if certain rules are observed budget bills don’t need a cloture vote.

I don't recall being too scared, but there sure was plenty of fear, and the attendant self-righteous angry indignation everywhere, which gave rise to the acceptance of lockdowns, and such golden memories of the time as phone numbers the government provided for you to call, if you saw your neighbors breaking quarantine rules. It doesn't take much pressure before people begin revealing aspects of their character that can remain hidden in times of peace and plenty.

@bachophile said in What is this map?: All that piss water. I simply hate these light Pilsner no taste urine. I need body. Stout. Ale. Something with flavor. Not piss. I don’t care for Guinness, but really enjoy the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stouts. The KBS Breakfast Stout is a guilty pleasure on ski trips as I will enjoy one with an Irish Breakfast. I also enjoy having several glasses of a Belgian Quad on Christmas Eve. Generally, I prefer red ales. Irish Ales, Scottish Ales, and such. I’m not a hophead like @Mik but there are two IPA’s that I’ve developed a taste for, Bell’s Two Hearted and Lost Rhino’s Face Plant. In the summer I will have the occasional Czech style Pilsner or a golden ale.

@Jolly said in Shipbuilding "Tariff": @Axtremus said in Shipbuilding "Tariff": @Jolly said in Shipbuilding "Tariff": We have multiple problems... We don't have the specialized trades to build and maintain ships like we used to. … We don't have the shipping capacity to engage in effective trade or to use out maritime fleet to transport troops, beans or bullets. We don't have enough ABS, engineers or officers to staff a robust commercial fleet. How do you go from these problems to tariff as the answer? Same reason you might tariff steel or food imports...Strategic goals. A nebulous response at best.

Paparo’s warnings about China have not gone unheeded, and the Europeans would be wise to prepare for a vastly reduced American role in NATO. Time is of the essence. The “Locust Years” of engagement have taken their toll on U.S. preparedness for war in the western Pacific. The distractions of Ukraine and the Middle East must be ended. The gathering storm is almost upon us. If only there was some way to reduce Chinese imports and increase our manufacturing capability.

I like that. Plus I know of at least two federally funded research projects that cannot possibly produce the promised result due to flaws in the dataset available. I’d really like a bit more diligence in vetting grant proposals.

Kind of surprised we don't do that to convicted rapists and pedofiles. Stop the possibilty of repeat offending.

@mark said in UPS uninterruptable power supply for computers: I like the CyberPower. I have replaced the batteries once. ARe you sure it just doesn't need new batteries? Problem with this one is that I cannot be sure that replacing batteries will fix the problem for good. Having a UPS is all about reliability and the peace of mind that comes with it. If I cannot trust the equipment anymore, it's time to replace it. Thank you all for the referrals to Schneider and Falcon. I will check them out too. Thanks!
